Science

Science is a fabulous subject and at the senior end of the school is taught as Chemistry, Biology and Physics.  We try and include as many practicals as possible to ensure that the pupils have a ‘hands on’ approach to their learning.  Alongside the fundamental syllabus content we are very keen on scientific skills.  These skills are often cross curricular and important life skills, as well as being vital for success at future schools.

The aims of the Science Department:

  • To inspire a love of science and a thirst for knowledge
  • To stimulate curiosity and create interest and enthusiasm for science
  • To provide pupils with evidence of their progression and achievements through constructive feedback
  • To inspire children to work well together and as individuals
  • To cover the requirements of the ISEB syllabus in preparation for Common Entrance
  • To provide differentiated tasks across the range of activities, which includes support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • To develop pupils’ skills, knowledge and understanding of science in relation to everyday phenomena and experiences
  • To equip children with the necessary scientific skills to afford successful progression into secondary education
